Keep a smile on your face – a day in the life of a care worker
The alarm sounds, you’re quick to your feet, the kettle goes on and you take a seat, A check of the rota, who will I see? Uniform goes on, you’re ready as can be, You rush to the door it’s time to start, with happiness, pride and a warming heart. A gentle tone as they open their eyes with the day drawing in and the morning sunrise A natter about the day ahead as you support them out of their bed. Help with their wash,. Their teeth and their hair, always showing compassion and care. Then on to the breakfast and possible meds A tidy around an making of beds. As the days goes on there more calls ahead right up until you support them to bed. But just remember as you work away, keep a smile on your face it’ll make their day.

By Teresa Savage Registered Manager
Teresa Savage
I joined the company in 1999 and at the time, I was looking for part-time work around my children. I had been doing care work since I was 16 and after trying office work which was not for me, I decided to get back into care. When my daughter started school, I decided to increase my hours, I had a great round with my regular service users, and I had to support some of our more challenging service users. I was proud of my achievements with them, as simple tasks like having a wash they would not often do with other carers. Notably this was recognised my manager at the time, who wanted to promote me into an office-based role. I then became the inhouse trainer and this gave me the opportunity to learn new skills and complete my teaching qualification to be able to train, with continuous upskilling. In 2015, I was promoted to Registered Manager, which is a role I have really enjoyed over the years; I have really loved developing the branch and engaging with the community. We have created a great rapport with the local hospital charities through events we have held such as a Tombola last December, which raised £500 for the Sensory room on the children’s ward. We are starting to plan this year’s Tombola and we are hopeful that we can raise more money for the hospital. Building these relationships is really important to Mayfair Homecare and we want to keep engaging and getting involved with the community.
